Description

KLJ is looking for an environmental/natural resource intern to join our team. KLJ has a diverse client group in a variety of sectors including oil and gas, telecommunications, airports, transportation, power, renewable energy, and residential/commercial development. The ideal candidate would be willing to learn about and assist other KLJ staff with different types of environmental field surveys and the documentation associated with the field work.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with field surveys under the supervision of other KLJ team members.
  • Draft reports and permit applications based on field results.
  • Ensure compliance with KLJ safety and quality standards.
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding and willingness to assist with environmental field surveys, including but not limited to: land reclamation surveys, wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, stormwater inspections, and migratory bird/raptor pre-construction nest surveys.
  • Assist with reports and permits associated with field work.
  • Accountable for following direction, meeting quality expectations, and timeliness of fieldwork and/or document completion to meet client and company expectations.
  • Will work closely with local KLJ team members and others from across our corporate footprint using industry standard videoconferencing platforms.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a four-year degree in an environmental related field.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles.

Relationships

The Environmental Technician is supervised by the regional supervisor and will receive on the job training, guidance, and direction on project-related tasks from task leads and project managers. They are expected to complete assignments and obtain guidance for unfamiliar tasks, problems, and situations.

Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 10% of the time spent in the office and 90% in the field.

  • Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk or hear and communicate clearly.

The employee must:

  • Be able to walk on uneven terrain up to ten miles per day.
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat, cold, etc.) unless deemed unsafe.
  • Be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
