Senior Project Engineer

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading design on Tribal and Municipal infrastructure projects. Position will be responsible to serve as engineer of record and ensure technical portion of projects are executed in line with KLJ's quality expectations and standards. Position will also coordinate project delivery including project management, resource allocation, quality control, and stakeholder management. Must be able to coordinate and collaborate with remote production teams on a regular basis to develop and implement solutions that improve the lives of people and their communities.

Essential Functions

• As appropriate, manages the delivery of projects primarily involving municipal infrastructure, including activities related to project scope, schedule, cost/budget, quality, communications, resources, procurement, and risk elements to optimize exceptional customer experience, quality, and fiscal responsibility.
• Apply civil engineering principles and standards to perform and direct engineering tasks as the Engineer of Record.
• Ensure proper Engineering practices and techniques are used by design team or project team by providing direction, review, and support.
• Leads the production team to ensure proper delivery of services, work product quality, project communications, customer satisfaction, and profitable execution of the project.
• Sets baselines for project scope, determines work procedures/sequences and refines schedules, budgets, risk assessments, staffing, vendor lists and progress billing points.
• Works with Operations Managers to identify qualified staff, form project teams, and assign responsibilities.
• Assists in developing project scope, schedule, and fee during proposal preparation phase.
• Supports and/or participates in proposal interviews and scope/fee negotiations to the extent required.
• Conforms with KLJ project delivery, safety standards, and driving the KLJ vision and brand.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited post-secondary institution
• Civil PE is required with at least 6 years of total experience in a related market. Must be able to obtain Professional Engineer license in New Mexico within 6 months of hire.
• Demonstrated competency with markets, clients and projects.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles.
• Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to production teams and project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

Preferences:

• Project Management experience
• Prior Engineering Consultant Experience

Hours and Travel

• Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
• Travel to job sites will be required as necessary; frequency of travel will vary and will be determined by project and client-specific requirements.
