DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will gain familiarity with computer and laptop usage, showcase teamwork, reliability, practice safe work habits, and demonstrate effective communication skills. Additionally, you will have the chance to observe state inspections, acquire knowledge in repairs and preventative maintenance, and diagnose/fix various equipment. You will also learn how to connect laptops for repair diagnosis, collaborate with certified mechanics on AC system repairs, and work alongside mechanics, operators, and office staff. Understanding the importance of adhering to work schedules, break times, PennDOT safety policies, and daily shop safety talks will be emphasized. It is essential to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and communicate equipment repair information to mechanics and supervisors. Your role will involve assisting Diesel Mechanics in addressing chassis, drive line, engine, electrical, and suspension issues across different types of equipment. You will actively listen to operators' explanations of equipment problems and work on repairs accordingly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • If you are selected for this position, you will work directly with your workplace supervisor to determine a work schedule that coordinates with your school schedule.
  • Junior - The internship may be the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year, summer 2024, and 2024-2025 school year.
  • Sophomores - The internship may begin 7/1/2024 and may include summer 2024, 2024-2025 school year, summer 2025, and 2025-2026 school year.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age.
  • You must be a sophomore or junior enrolled in High School during the 2023 - 24 school year.
  • You have completed sophomore year of high school at time of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
